Large Doses Of Vitamin C Prevent From Cancer Growths

Scientists from New Zealand discovered that ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) is more important for the body as they thought before.

 Doctor Margret Visser from Christchurch Medical College says that Vitamin C is a basic factor to control the number of cellular activity such as cell fatality and cancer cell growths. A group of oncologists from National Institutes of Health under command of Mark Levine discovered that large doses of Vitamin C prevent from cancerous growths development in the brain, pancreas and ovary. The information is provided by Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

 It was suggested to use Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) for cancer treatment about 30 years ago. However, further experiments, in course of which Vitamin C was administrated orally, it did not proved the effectiveness of this treatment. The reason was that body refused to ingest extra dose of Vitamin C (more than 200gm per day) through gastral tract.

 Researchers from NIH approached this in a different way – they injected ascorbic acid directly into blood through veins or abdomen. Experiments were performed on laboratory mice with quick cancer cell growths. The amplitude of injections was up to 4mg per one kg of human body daily.

 “Scientists have discovered that high concentration of ascorbic acid has anticancer effect on 75% investigated cell colonies, however, healthy cells do not get damaged”, is written in press release. In this case Vitamin C helped to lower cancer growths approximately for 41%-53%. Medical effect of ascorbic acid appears when it comes in contact with chemical reactions in cells and as a result hydric dioxide is produced that is harmful for cancer cells.

Scientists believe that experiments, which proved justification of Vitamin C usage in mice, would give positive results in humans as well. However, dr. Elisson Ross from Cancer Research UK says that it is necessary to make additional researches. “By now we do not have clinical results proving the effectiveness of insertion of Vitamin C in diseased with cancer”, she said for BBC.
